The Mediation Center supports the courts, families, and attorneys by managing the Chatham County Guardian ad Litem program. Guardian ad Litems Court appointed to represent the interest of a child in cases involving high conflict and allegations of abuse or neglect. In this training, you will hear from attorneys, licensed counselors, Judges, and volunteers regarding the importance of the GAL program; best practices; strategies for conducting interviews; working with difficult families; the short and long-term effects of abuse on the development of a child. Currently, there is a great need in our community for GALs and the support they provide children and families, our team and the Court hope you will consider adding value to the program.
Requirements
Our Guardian ad Litem Training is mandatory if you want to be included on the Superior Court GAL list for Chatham County. Participation in the training requires you to have a law degree and admittance to the Georgia Bar. Additionally, all applicants will go through an interview process in order to be added to the training list. Finally, our Center requires GALs on our roster to manage two pro bono GAL cases after training and attend a 1-hour annual CLE at the Center. If approved for the training, we will send you an invoice.

The Mediation Center is unable to provide a refund and reserves the right to refuse a refund for failure to attend training on the indicated registration date. Participants have the option of attending a future training or recategorizing the payment for training as a donation to the Center’s community youth education programs.
