Families First: Restorative Conferencing for Managing Parent-Teen Conflict
How it works: Family members involved and affected by conflict are invited, as well as resource professional(s) from organizations the parties may find beneficial. A trained mediator facilitates the conference. In a circular format, parties discuss what occurred, how individuals were affected, and work together to define a better path forward.
Benefits and outcomes:
A conference is an opportunity for responsible parties to meet, talk and take accountability for their actions. Communicating in the conference is a stepping-stone to reducing the impact of harm, and repairing and restoring the relationship. The participants reach an agreement that is documented and states how each person will work towards rebuilding trust and the relationship.
